Age of Wonders doesn't compare to Heroes of might & magic 3, but it does compare pretty accurately to another game from 20 years ago called "Master of Magic." In many ways, AOW3 feels like a continuation of MoM the ways Heroes feels like a continuation of a game from 25 years ago called "Kings Bounty." (No relation to the games on Steam King's Bounty is a turn-based fantasy computer and video game designed by Jon Van Caneghem of New World Computing in 1990. The game follows the player's character, a hero of King Maximus, appointed with the job of retrieving the Sceptre of Order from the forces of chaos, led by Arech Dragonbreath. King's Bounty is notably considered the forerunner of the Heroes of Might and Magic series of Homm 2, 3 and 4 were and still are amazing. 5 & 6 are not bad, but not as amazing as the earlier ones (probably because they sold out to Ubisoft). Destructive Magic - this skill does the best for dungeon, especially combined with Empowered Spells; Luck - well, not the best choice, but can be useful for elves and inferno. IMHO, Heroes 5 has more balanced skills than Heroes 3 and your choice isn't limited to Earth, Wind, Intelligence and Wisdom. Let's say you had 30 available both Grand and Wood elf units in your Rampart and you want to save money when converting them to Sharpshooters. Step 1: Purchase 30 downgraded Wood Elves. Step 2: Have Gelu take the Wood Elves to the nearest Castle Fort Upgrade structure on the map. I picked up Heroes 3 again like 2 years ago when one of Lexiav's videos popped up in my YouTube page. I quickly found out how easy HotA had made playing multiplayer and how fresh the game felt with all the QoL (quality of life) improvements & how the 'player meta' had totally changed the way I viewed the game (1-stacks are so good).
